The health benefits of hazelnuts
Did you know that nuts, especially walnuts, hazelnuts and almonds are full of nutrients contributing to a healthy and balanced diet? And what if we told you that they are very similar to the extraordinary properties of extra virgin olive oil?
Hazelnuts are rich in monounsaturated fatty-acids (oleic acid), vitamin E, phytosterols (especially β-sitosterols) and polyphenols. Also they are plentiful in beneficial minerals, such as magnesium, copper and selenium.
Scientific research shows that moderate and habitual nuts consumption helps the general health without influencing the energy balance even if the lipids and calories amount in a single portion are high. Nuts consumption reduces the incidence of coronary disease and diabetes and decreases mortality caused by cardiovascular diseases.
These health benefits are achievable by simply adding 30-40 grams of hazelnuts to your daily diet. It is also recommended to increase the consumption of hazelnuts, especially in the form of raw product (not toasted) without removing the brown skin (perisperm) where fibres are in the highest quantity.
If you don't know where to start, we recommend the delicious hazelnuts from Altalanga. Their lands in Cerretto Langhe, Piedmont Italy, are certified organic and they produce a quality of hazelnut with a IGP denomination (a protected geographical indication) also called "round, gentle and with three lobes" that you cannot find anywhere else.
They also happened to be considered the best in the world for their nutraceutical properties. For more information, do not hesitate to email us at hello[@]theredbeetle.com
